Wiping and rocking
2018
Copper rods, baby-wipes, thread
Exploring the rhythms of the day: wiping, organising and cleaning. Embroidered baby-wipes wrapped around a rocking stand. The copper stand rocks on fragile but sharpened rods; a spiky object reminiscent of a subverted clothes dryer or toast rack. Hyper feminine but under the covers lurks something sharp and potentially damaging. Exploring areas around 'self' and 'other'; to touch is to be touched.
Rocking and Rolling
2018
Copper rods, elasticated monofilament
Four suspended ladders with seven rungs hold up rocking cots. These spiky little things are reminiscent of executive toys or the empty rocking chair in the corner of a room from a horror film. They suggest time, rhythm and knitting needles. The work is about trying to control time and create routines in a world that is erratic and unpredictable.
